Jonathan Club Wedding

I was at the Jonathan Club on March 17, 2007 for the wedding of Sid and Melissa. They were an easy-going couple with ecclectic tastes ranging from classic blues to hair bands! I was a bit nervous about how their audience would respond since the newlyweds told me that their guests probably would not dance.

I started the dance set out with a couple of love songs:
Taj Mahal - That's How Much I Love You
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (from couple's song list)

This started the dance floor with about 40% of the guests joining Sid and Melissa on the dance floor. I then followed with a couple of 'Bollywood' tunes for the groom's side of the family. The response was acceptable but a bit quieter than I expected.

It was a challenge but fun to mix classic rock favorites like:
Bon Jovi's Bad Medicine & Livin On A Prayer (One of the bride's past favorites as relayed by the bridesmaids)
American Girl - Tom Petty
Roadhouse Blues - The Doors

After the cake cutting (with GnR - Sweet Child O Mine as their cake 'soundtrack')
I began the next dance set with a Santana request:
'Oyo Como Va' and then mixed into
Your Love - The Outfield
and it was back to the rock n roll music, Indian music and some hip hop
Jay-Z and Punjabi MC - Beware of the Boys
Gang Starr - 'My Steez'
The Breaks - Kurtis Blow
and one of my favorite 2007 tracks: "Rock This Party" - Bob Sinclair which is a mix of "C&C Music Factory" and dancehall with a house beat.

Overall the floor stayed 90% filled and I was happy that most of the couple's list worked pretty well with the exception of 'boys of summer' by Don Henley which I mixed out of very quickly.

It was a pleasure working with the Downtown L.A. Jonathan Club staff
and
I had a chance to meet Chris at http://www.abridetobephotography.com.

Chris had referred DJ Zan for this event but Zan was already booked so I had the pleasure.

Thank you Chris for the good word!
