Summer in full swing, 3 weddings this weekend
Although I attempt to limit my events to one per day, I had a wedding this Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The hall supplies union sound engineers so all I had to do was 'patch' my laptop into their system for both the ceremony and reception. We were in the beautiful garden for the ceremony and later in BP Hall for the reception. My clients asked for games, dances and surprises so we loaded up the afternoon with interaction. Here's a 'slideshow link' provided by John Riedy Photography who captured the essence of the Disney Concert Hall as well as the newlyweds Adhi & Linna. Here's a quick glance at the day:

A very enthusiastic 'hot legs' contestant. He came in a very close 2nd place.
Although many of my clients prefer a much more low-key approach to their wedding entertainment, Adhi & Linna took a fun-loving, no-holds-barred approach to their reception. They even requested a blindfold game!
After the Disney wedding, I made my way to the University Club in Pasadena where I caught up with my old friends Margaret (catering director) and Frankie (Banquet Captain) while I set-up for the wedding reception of Josh and Reva. The University Club staff has always been a strong supporter of my company and we've handled many of their staff holiday parties in the past.
Reva wanted a 'bubble experience' hinted with blue lights for their first dance so set-up took a bit longer than usual. I also put up a small sound system in the front area for cocktail hour which I pre-programmed with vocal swing classics by Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. The client was OK with some of the 'new' vocal standards by Rod Stewart and Michael Buble, as well.
Reva's dad was ready to Salsa so I began with some of his favorites from a CD that he provided and then we kicked the party into gear. Josh is a fan of Punk so we even worked in some 'Green Day', 'Social Distortion' and 'Pennywise' for some of the traditional moments. I find it to be a good idea to represent both the bride and groom on their wedding day and it was clear that his friends appreciated the music.
Sunday came and I found myself at the Castle Green in Pasadena working for Ace of Hearts. Michael Greenfield is a great guitarist and runs the company but tonight he was simply making sure everything ran smooth while he took the opportunity to film some demo footage of his jazz trio. They sounded great. One of the reasons I refer Mike's company. Whether it is a 12-piece 'big band' or a solo guitarist, his musicians are always top-notch.
Kayleigh and David were an easy-going couple with ecclectic tastes ranging from the Beatles to Radiohead. They entered the main dining hall and had their first dance followed by a small introductory dance set and their friends and family joined them quickly. I ended the set with one of the many requests from the couple: 'Gnarls Barkley - The Last Time' which has a Motown feel.
A lot of dancing earlier in the evening but once the cake was cut (we waited until 9:45pm'ish instead of the original plan of 8:30pm) most of the guests began to say their goodbyes. This is not unusual for a Sunday evening.
It was a successful weekend but I was definitely ready to sleep

Mark, I haven't had a chance to compliment you personally on your SUPERB work....it was THE BEST. I am a friend of Fiona and Larry and I remember their wedding reception as being one of the best that I have ever attended. Excellent choice of music, unforgetable games, it's just WOW! My wedding is coming up next year (still trying to decide on the date) and I only want MARK, MARK, and MARK to be my DJ/MC!!
